RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Commander in Chief Russian Ground Forces Army General Oleg Salyukov met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

During the meeting, matters related to enhanced security/training cooperation and measures to further expand joint military ties between the two armies were discussed.

The COAS said that cooperation between both Pakistan and Russia will not only help in improving peace and stability in the region but will also usher economic prosperity. He said that Pakistan does not believe in zero sum games but rather, integration and cooperation.

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan Army’s professionalism and achievements in war against terrorism.

General Oleg Salyukov said that the world should appreciate more what Pakistan has achieved. He also expressed the Russian desire to forge strong and broad based relations with Pakistan.

Earlier, on arrival at GHQ, the Commander in Chief Russian Ground Forces laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Russia last year in April and met Colonel General Oleg Salyukov, Commander Russian Federation Ground Forces at Kremlin Palace.

Russia and Pakistan military forces are engaged in regular joint Russian-Pakistani exercises called “Friendship” (дружба) since year 2016.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
