ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani Wednesday called for further strengthening of bilateral ties between Pakistan and Sweden by enhancing the existing trade and business relations as well as parliamentary interactions between the two countries.

While talking to Ambassador of Sweden in Pakistan Ingrid Johansson at the Parliament House in Islamabad, Rabbani felicitated the ambassador for success of Sweden in election as a member of the UN Security Council and hoped that with this new role and especially as a President of Security Council in a coming days, Sweden will play its active role for protection of human rights and international laws as it has manifested over the years.

He highlighted the violation of human rights by the Indian armed forces in Indian occupied Kashmir and reiterated that the world community should play an active role to end these violations.

Chairman Senate also pointed out human rights violations in the Palestine and called upon a need for collective approach of the world community for resolving the long standing issues.

He said Pakistan has very high expectations from Sweden owing to its good record for highlighting and protecting the human rights across the globe.

He said the election of the Sweden is a breath of fresh air in the Security Council as historically Sweden has always been active in protecting the human rights and raising voice against the atrocities against the oppressed segments of the society.

Rabbani said initiatives of the Sweden to setup a business council in Pakistan is a welcome move which would go a long way to increase trade and business relations between the two countries and help explore opportunities and prospects for investment in Pakistan.

He said the economic opportunities in Pakistan have increased in wake of improved security situation in the Country.

He said the Swedish and other foreign investors should focus medium and small entrepreneurs as there is a huge potential for development and investment in this sector.
