ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Around 97 percent urban and 90 percent rural areas of the country remained under zero loadshedding at the Sehri time on Wednesday, a spokesman of the Ministry of Water and Power said.

“With the advent of the holy month of Ramzan, the ministry is making all out efforts to provide maximum relief to the domestic consumers, especially at the Sehri, Iftar and Taraweeh timings, despite unprecedented heat wave across the country,” a press release said.

On June 7, the spokesman said, zero load-shedding was maintained at Sheri time in 97 percent urban areas and 85 percent rural localities, while 96 percent urban area and 80 percent rural areas were loadshedding-free at the Iftar time.

The spokesman made it clear that there was no unannounced loadshedding in any part of the country and the Secretary Ministry of Water and Power Muhammad Younus Dagha was personally monitoring the situation at Sehri, Iftari and Taraweeh timings.

The spokesman said utmost efforts were being made for uninterrupted power supply to maximum domestic consumers, however, due to extreme heat wave and other technical issues, some faults could develop causing temporary disruption in power supply to any locality.

The DISCOs have formed special teams to rectify such faults on emergency basis.

The Federal Complaint Cell at the Ministry of Water and Power is also working round the clock to redress consumers complaints across the country.

Consumers can call on 051-9103888, 051-9206834 and 051-9204430 or may register online complaints on www.mowp.gov.pk.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Water and Power has appealed to the consumers to adopt energy conservation measures and avoid wastage of electricity, saying that the power demand has risen sharply due to prevailing extreme heat wave in most parts of the country.

It also urged the consumers to minimize use of air conditioners at the time of Sehri and Iftar so that maximum relief could be provided to the domestic consumers across the country.
