ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) has provided financial assistance worth Rs 2,998 million in form of Post Matric Scholarships to 47,789 talented children of industrial workers since the year 2013 till present.

A total of 26,802 talented students were given scholarships worth Rs 1,569 million in the Punjab province from May 2013 to April 2016, said an official of WWF while talking to APP on Monday.

A total of 9,955 shining students were given scholarships worth Rs 317 million in the Sindh province for pursuing studies.

As many as 6,396 students got scholarships worth Rs 816 million in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while 181 students of Balochistan were given scholarships worth Rs 26 million.

In Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 4,455 students were given scholarships by the WWF through spending an amount of Rs 270 million during the mentioned period.

The official informed that more than 108,000 children of workers are getting free of cost education up to higher secondary level in Workers’ Welfare Model schools established in major industrial cities.

Workers’ Welfare Fund (WWF) was established under Workers’ Welfare Fund Ordinance, 1971 as an autonomous body which is presently functioning under administrative control of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development for providing housing and other amenities to the industrial workers.

To cater for the basic needs of industrial workers across the country, WWF is establishing various facilities in housing, education and health sectors.

Moreover, financial assistance is also being extended to workers and their dependents in the form of scholarships, marriage grant and death grant, the official added.
