ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The response submitted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department over its failure to forecast high intensity dust/thunderstorms which lashed parts of the country on June 1, has been termed unsatisfactory.
“The response is not satisfactory. The Met department failed to inform the administrations of the affected cities on time,” a press release of the PM Office media wing said on Saturday.
It said there was no effective dissemination of storm alert through media and just information of a localized storm was placed on the website.
No effort was made to coordinate with the emergency response authorities and neither the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was informed through an early warning system to trigger emergency response, it added.
The Prime Minister had directed for an explanation by the Met Office over the very serious issue.
