ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government is set conduct a National Drug Survey was conducted in the Country after 11 years with a mission to save new generation from menace of narcotics.

The Federal Minister of Interior and Anti-Narcotics Mohsin Naqvi gave the approval in principle in a meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday.

Under the National Drug Survey, the data of drug users across the Country will be collected.

The interior minister said that the National Drug Survey should be comprehensive and authentic, saying that an accurate survey data is of real importance and will yield benefits.

The minister directed to collect data from educational institutions, slums and other places as well apart from homes in the survey.

Mohsin Naqvi noted that an effective and result-oriented decision-making as part of anti-narcotics efforts will be possible only with an authentic and extensive survey data availalbe.

The interior minister said that there will be no compromise on efforts aimed at curbing narcotics use because it relates to the betterment of nation’s future.

The minister issued instructions to finalize matters related to the survey within 15 days.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) will jointly work out the methodology, nature of data required, sample format, and timeline for conducting the survey.

The minister said that international development organizations should also be contacted for cooperation in conducting the survey.

It should be noted that the last National Drug Survey was held in 2013.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary Interior, Secretary Planning, Additional Secretary Finance, Special Secretary Health, Director General ANF and Chief Statistician.
