ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday said Pakistan should have given a balanced and strong response over the US President Donald Trump’s statement.
Talking to media after presiding over the meeting of the Joint Committee of the Parliament on National Security in Islamabad, Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistan wanted engagement with the United States but with dignity and honour.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Committee on National Security met in which leaders of all parliamentary parties including opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah, Naveed Qamar, Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Barrister Zafarullah, Mushahid Ullah and Shah Mehmood Qureshi among others participated.
The Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Defense Minister Khurram Dastgir, the Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and the Secretary Defense also participated in the session.
The foreign minister briefed the session, and said the US administration neglected facts regarding Pakistan. He said the United States shouldn’t have blamed Pakistan for its failure in Afghanistan.
Khawaja Asif said there had been a long story of the sacrifices rendered by the people and security forces of Pakistan.
“We will not make compromise on our dignity,” Asif said.
The participants said all political parties were united to safeguard interests of the country.
It was decided that another meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security would be convened soon to chalk out a plan to meet any eventuality. The military leadership would also be invited in the next session which would be held next week.
