Loans against PIA stand at Rs 429.267 billion

The Minister for Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif told the National Assembly on April 01, 2024 that the total amount of domestic and foreign loans against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) stands at Rs 429.267 billion.

In a written reply to a question, Khawaja Asif told the house that the PIA obtained a total of Rs 268.2 billion in bank loans and Rs 161.067 billion loan from the government of Pakistan as on September 30, 2023.

TotalPKR 429.267 billion

The minister said that the PIA obtained these loans to deal with cash flow constraints and to induct aircraft, engines, and procure spares for the sustenance of operational requirements.

No airports partially or completely outsourced at present

Furthermore, he told the House that the is no airports has been partially or completely outsourced to any foreign institution at present.

However, the government is making efforts to outsource Islamabad international Airport (IIAP) in the first phase, he said.

The aviation minister also told that the New Islamabad International Airport has not been named to any recognized personality. The name of Islamabad International Airport was formally declared by the Cabinet Division Memorandum dated March 7, 2018.

Presently, there have no proposal under consideration to name the Islamabad International Airport after that the Prime Minister of the Country Liaquat Ali Khan in view of his rendered services for the creation of Pakistan, the House was told.
