ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that it is in Pakistan’s wider interest that elections across the Country are held on the same day and the Parliament is ready to play its role in this regard.

“Parliament is the only place where struggle for democracy would succeed,” he said while talking to Media Representatives on the sideline of the event “Policy Dialogue on Climate Smart Agriculture and Food Security: Challenges and Way Forward for Pakistan” organized by PIPS in collocation with Syngenta in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Speaker National Assembly said that consensus and dialogue is the only option for all political parties to lead the Country out of socio-economic challenges and the Parliament is ready to develop consensus and dialogue among all political stakeholders in this perspective.

Pervez Ashraf also said that holding elections is the shared responsibility of three stakeholder i.e. ECP, incumbent government and all political parties and these three stakeholders should develop consensus in this regard.

In a response to query of journalist regarding hike is support prizes of wheat for farmers, he said that cost of agricultural inputs need to be rationalized to control this trend.

Earlier, the Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf said that Pakistan is the least contributor to global warming but the worst affectees of global climate challenge.

The Speaker said that climate change, food security and sustainable agriculture are strongly interlinked. He also said that Pakistan has been facing sever impacts of climate change like drought, forest fires and recent devastating floods.

“Pakistani nation has been successfully grappling these challenges and will emerge victorious out of present challenges,” he aid.

Furthermore, he also praised the role and support academia and intelligentsia for upgrading policy options.

Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that Pakistan is a blessed state with all human resources and natural blessings. He said that Pakistani diaspora is playing pivotal role for finding new ways of transforming agriculture as per climate change.

The Speaker National Assembly said that these are our agriculture scientists who can invent new seeds, new techniques for growing agricultural production.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
