ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal has proposed that local governments in Punjab should immediately be restored to combat the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Taking part in the discussion in the National Assembly which resumed its resumed its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Friday to discuss the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic, Ahsan Iqbal said that the government should have evolved a comprehensive policy to combat the virus.

The PML-N leader said that serious and collective efforts are needed to prevent spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the federal government should declare the education emergency, reduce petroleum, electricity, and gas prices to provide relief to the common people in the wake of COVID-19.

While responding to various points raised by the Parliamentarians, the Minister for Aviation Division Ghulam Sarwar Khan apprised the House that 7,000 stranded Pakistanis will be brought back home before Eid.

The minister said that thousands of stranded Pakistanis including students, workers, members of Tableeghi Jamaat, and pilgrims from across the globe have been repatriated.

Ghulam Sarwar said that Pakistani prisoners from Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were brought back free of cost.

In addition, he said that the Aviation Division operated 181 inbound flights and took over 25,000 passengers to their destinations in 27 Countries.

The minister said that around 250 students from Wuhan and China will be repatriated through a special flight on Monday.
