ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The fifth Asia Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference titled “Envisioning Parliamentary Paths towards a Diverse and Developed South Asia” will begin in Islamabad on Monday with an aim to bring Parliaments of various Countries together for regional prosperity.

The Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser will Chair the Conference, which is being held after a gap of nine years.

The Conference will be attended by parliamentarians and eminent personalities like the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament and the current President of CPA Ms. Rebecca Kadaga, the Member of Parliament (UK) Lord Purvis of Tweed, the Member of Malaysian Parliament Dr. Noraini Binti Ahmad, the Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee and Deputy Speaker of the Cameroon Parliament Ms. Emilia Lifaka, the Secretary General CPA Akbar Khan, the Speaker Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly Fida Muhammad Nashad, and the Speaker Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir.

In his message to the distinguished guests of the Conference, the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that it was his profound privilege to host honorable Parliamentarians and experts from the South Asian region, Federal and Provincial legislatures of Pakistan alongside observers from various parts of the Commonwealth to the 5th CPA Asia Regional Conference 2019 in Islamabad. 

Asad Qaiser said that the theme of the Conference represents the earnest desire of the Parliament of Pakistan to collaborate with legislatures from the South Asian region to come together on a single platform for the common good of our people.

The Speaker further said that keen participation by Members of Parliaments is most heartening and a sign of their commitment towards strengthening democratic processes and supporting Pakistan’s efforts of bringing regional legislatures closer.

On behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy King of Kingdom of Bahrain, conferred Bahrain Medal - First Class upon Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force at Sakhir Air Base, Bahrain. Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
