National Assembly362,520 CNICs blocked in last three years, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 362,520 Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) of Pakistanis have been blocked by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) from year 2015 to date, National Assembly was told on Friday.

In a written answer to the question of Syed Waseem Hussain, Ministry of Interior told that the CNICs were blocked owing to the submission of fake particulars, etc.

According to details, 96,689 CNICs were blocked in the year 2015, 223,512 CNICs were blocked in 2016 and 42,319 CNICs had been blocked in 2017. As many as 109,477 CNICs were verified/cleared from 2015 to 2017.

According to details of verifications, 57,916 CNICs were verified in 2015, 47,811 in 2016 and 3,750 CNICs were verified in 2017.

In a written reply to the question of Nikhat Shakeel Khan, the ministry of Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs told that home remittances were increased 18.2 percent during financial year 2014-15 and 6.4 percent in FY 2015-16.

However, home remittances witnessed a marginal decline of 3.1 percent and fell to USD 19.3 billion during FY 2016-17 compared with USD 19.9 billion remittances received in FY 2015-16.

The declining trend in home remittances during FY 2016-17 is a global phenomenon and mainly attributed to various factors including persistent decline in oil prices, slowdown construction activities in Saudi Arabia, UAE , 11 percent decline in number of Pakistani workers in countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Malaysia during current year 2016.

Meanwhile, replying to another question the legislators were told that the net internal public debt was Rs 12,310 billion by Dec 2016. The external public debt was US$ 58 billion during the same period.
