ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly Secretariat will host an event at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Thursday in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2020 will be celebrated with the theme “a Better Inclusive Post COVID-19 world for PWDs”.

   

The Day would especially focus to commemorate the services of the PWDs and acknowledging their contributions in spite of their physical hardships and limitations.

The Commemoration of the Day in the Parliament is the result of Special initiatives of the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser for the welfare of PWDs and making them an inclusive part of the Society.

The Speaker’s initiatives for the welfare of the PWDs include formulating Special Parliamentary Committee on PWDs and issuance of directions to make Parliament building PWDs’ friendly.

Asad Qaiser also directed to make the official website of the National Assembly readable for the visually impaired and inaugurated the Special Mobile App “Equal Access” for integrating their data.

The Speaker also focused to take Legislative initiatives for PWDs which would serve as policy interventions.

The Speaker National Assembly pledged that the International Day of PWDs would be the day of resolution to continue this journey of making efforts for making PWDs part and parcel of socio-economic strata. This parliamentary supervision and oversight would prove a catalyst to support the efforts of all striving to bring positive changes in the lives of PWDs.

The one-day event would include addresses by the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, the Minister for Human Rights Ms. Shireen Mazari, and Convener Sub-Committee on PWDs MNA Ms. Munaza Hasan.

A documentary regarding Special initiatives for socio-economic inclusion of PWDs by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser would also be displayed.

Ms. Zala Qaiser, Emerging Disability leader, Key Speech by Mr. Muhammad Atif Sheikh Executive Director STEP, and Ms. Lina Mousa, Country Representatives UNFPA would also address the event.

The Parliamentarians, Intelligentsia, Representative Media Representatives would participate in the event.
