Musharraf in critical condition, may be sent abroad

RAWALPINDI: Former President Pervez Musharraf is in critical condition, while the option is being reviewed to send him abroad for medical checkup, the sources in the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and other media reports said.

The decision whether to send the former president abroad or to treat him in the country will be taken after the release of his medical report.

Begum Sehba Musharraf, wife of former president, has reached the AFIC, where his husband is currently under treatment, the sources said adding that the daughter of Musharraf has also been called from Karachi to Islamabad.

Musharraf was shifted to the AFIC in Rawalpindi for medical treatment after he suffered heart problem on his way to the special court to appear before it for the treason case on Thursday.

A three-member special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali had ordered the former military ruler to appear in court and warned that warrants for his arrest would be issued in case of failure to comply with the court’s orders.

Following the court’s order, the former president left his Chak Shahzad farmhouse residence to appear before the special court. However, the squad rushed him to the AIFC after health of Pervez Musharraf deteriorated.

DIG Security Jan Muhammad informed the special court that Musharraf suffered a heart problem while being transported to his trial.

Meanwhile, the special court reserved the judgment on today’s proceedings in the treason case, and would announce the verdict at 4pm today.
