KARACHI: Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has rejected the new Sindh local bodies system proposed by the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), describing it as a conspiracy of dividing Karachi into pieces.

The MQM opposition leader in Sindh Syed Sardar Ahmad has vowed that his party will oppose PPP’s local bodies’ system in the provincial assembly.

The MQM, second largest party in Sindh, is demanding restoration of 2012’s LB System in the province but PPP, the leading political party in Sindh, has declared it impossible.

On Tuesday, Sindh Law Minister Sikandar Mendhro announced that Sindh regime was ready to hold local bodies’ polls after August 15.

A draft of new local bodies’ system was handed over to Sindh Chief Minister for approval and now the Election Commission of Pakistan could issue schedule of local bodies’ any time after August 15, Mendhro said.
