KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced to observe three-day mourning following the murder of its Sindh Assembly member, business activities and transport to remain closed during mourning.

Earlier in the day, unknown gunmen shot dead MQM MPA Muhammad Sajid Qureshi, from PS-103, and his son as they left a mosque after attending Friday prayers in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area.

   

“Gunmen on a motorcycle fired at (Sindh) provincial assembly member Sajid Qureshi, his son and a pedestrian when they were coming out of mosque,” said senior police official Amir Farooqi.

Tension gripped parts of Karachi soon after his killing, as petrol pumps, CNG stations, markets and all kind of business activities were closed in Nazimabad, Shah Faisal Colony, North Nazimabad, Golimar, Landhi, Sakhi Hasan, Korangi and other areas.

MQM Rabita Committee strongly condemned the incident.

Strongly condemning the killing, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered an enquiry into the assassinations.

The Prime Minister taking strong notice of the incident has directed for immediate arrest of the killers of Sajid Qureshi and ordered an enquiry into the killing.

President Asif Ali Zardari also strongly condemned the killing of the MPA and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.

Moreover, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan took notice of the incident and sought a report from Inspector General Sindh Police in this regards.
