ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Director Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Muhammad Hanif Tuesday said that heavy rains have been predicted in different parts of country during next three days.

Talking to a private news channel, he said that good monsoon currents are likely to penetrate in upper and central parts of the country in next 48 hrs.

Due to monsoon incursion, rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected at a number of places in Islamabad, Punjab, FATA, KPK & Kashmir from Tuesday to Thursday, he added.

To a question, he told rain and thunderstorm is also expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and Eastern parts of Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat divisions) during the period.

He informed that expected heavy downpour may cause flash flooding and landslides in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir. Rain coupled with glacier melt water may result in GLOF events in vulnerable areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.
