EuropeUS, UK, France to seek strong binding UN resolution on Syria

PARIS: The United States, UK and France have reached consensus to seek a strong binding United Nations resolution on Syria with precise deadlines on removal of chemical weapons, the office of French President Francois Hollande said.

Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announced at a joint press conference with his counterparts from US and UK – US Secretary of State John Kerry and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague – in Paris that the Syrian rebels fighting the President Bashar al-Assad’s regime will be provided more help as they have agreed to strengthen their support for them.

Kerry confirmed his country’s adherence to the plan, but said there must be consequences for Syria if it does not deliver on its promise.

While Hague pledged that the three countries would work with Russia to gather an international conference in Geneva to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis.
