RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has imposed a travel ban on Mufti Muhammad Al-Arifi due to his support of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, a report says.
“He was planning to visit the Qatari capital, Doha to attend a program on Thursday, but he was prevented to leave Saudi Arabia,” Middle East Online website reported that Arifi said on his twitter page.
Arifi, who is famous for his controversial fatwas (decrees), has voiced his support for people demanding the return of the Egyptian overthrown president Mohamed Morsi to power.
The Mufti is under pressure by Saudi officials for his support of Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood.
