Pakistan pursuing neutral policy on Syria in line with UN resolutions: Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is pursuing a neutral policy on Syria in line with the United Nations resolutions, the prime minister’s advisor on foreign affairs and national security Sartaj Aziz said in an interview with BBC.

The premier’s advisor said that sectarian divisions are very harmful for the Islamic world.

When he was asked if Pakistan is sending arms to Syria, Aziz said that there is no specific agreement about Syria in the present circumstances.

The advisor said that Pakistan is making efforts to sell small arms and fighter aircraft to Saudi Arabia. He said that it is strange that objections are being raised about it, though all world nations want to sell their weapons to other countries.

Aziz said that there is no difficulty for Saudi Arabia to purchase weapons from any other country. There is no need for creating any doubts on the issue, he added.

Talking about Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, he said that the project is intact but due to sanctions, the time limit for its implementation will have to be reset.

Moreover, the advisor said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Iran in May or June to discuss bilateral relations and world issues.
