ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Friday that it is following a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries but it stresses the values of democracy must always be upheld.

“Pakistan has been following events in Egypt and hoped that Egyptians will deal with the situation in a democratic manner,” Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said while responding to questions about the crisis in Egypt during his news briefing in Islamabad on Friday.

To a question‚ the spokesman said the exact date and agenda of the visit the US Secretary of State John Kerry expected later this month‚ are being finalized.

To another question he said the issue of drone strikes which violate Pakistan’s sovereignty‚ violation of international law and human rights besides being counter-productive‚ will also be taken up again in forthcoming contacts with the United States.

About Afghan Army Chief’s accusations that Pakistan controls Taliban‚ the spokesman said Pakistan is sincere in its efforts to see peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He hoped that sincerity of Pakistan will be appreciated and reciprocated and negative statements avoided.

To another question‚ he said former Foreign Secretary Shahryar Ahmad Khan has been asked by the Prime Minister to conduct Track-II diplomacy.

About reports of Indian BSF facilitating militants entering Pakistan‚ the spokesman said the two countries have border management mechanism and contact each other when need arises.

He‚ however‚ said Pakistan expects that its policy of having good neighborly relations with India will be reciprocated from the other side.
