BAGHDAD: The Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said that he will never give up seeking a third term in office despite domestic and foreign pressure.

“I will never give up on my candidacy for the post of prime minister,” the Iraqi premier said in a statement.

Maliki said that other parties have no right to impose conditions on the final selection of the prime minister as his party the State of Law Coalition won a majority of seats in the country’s elections on April 30.

The Iraqi prime minister further said that the Iraqi forces will continue their fight against militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). He said that the fight will continue until the ISIL is defeated.
