MediaJournalists arrested in Iran before election

DUBAI:  In what seemed to be a coordinated crackdown on the media, over a dozen journalists have been detained by the Iranian authorities for having alleged links to “anti-revolutionary” media in the last 2 days, Iranian media reported on Monday.

In order to evade a recurrence of wide-ranging protests that took place following the 2009 election, Iranian leadership appears to be tightening its grip on the media ahead of a presidential election.

According to Mehr news agency reports, Journalists, who were working for reformist newspapers Arman, Etemaad, Bahar,  Shargh, the Aseman weekly and Iran’s economy-focused ILNA labor news agency, were held on Sunday on charges of cooperating with Persian-language “anti-revolutionary” news outlets
