Middle EastEgypt Judiciary extends Mohamed Morsi's detention for 15 days

CAIRO: The Egyptian Judiciary on Monday extended detention of the ousted President Mohamed Morsi for 15 more days as investigations continue into charges that Morsi conspired with Palestinian militants during the country’s 2011 uprising.

The decision was made by Judge Hassan Samir on Monday as he was looking into accusations that Morsi colluded with Hamas to break out of the Wadi al-Natroun prison west of Cairo along with 33 other members of his Muslim Brotherhood group.

This is the second time Morsi’s detention has been renewed; the first was on July 26.

Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities have postponed a move to disperse two Cairo sit-ins by supporters of Morsi, to “avoid bloodshed,” security sources said.

The decision not to disperse the protesters came after there were some leaks to the media about the possible intervention of security forces and larger groups started to attend those pro- Morsi sit-ins.
