ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani said on Wednesday that Journalists had struggled along with politicians against dictatorship and rendered uncountable sacrifices in restoration of democracy in the country.

Raza Rabbani, while addressing on the oath taking ceremony of newly elected representative at National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad, said that journalists are being martyred on brining truth before the people of Pakistan. It is lamentable, if journalists are insecure due to any pillar or institution of the state.

He said we had been firmed stand for legitimacy and will keep our struggle continued. This struggle is not mere the freedom of media rather against the dictatorship and to achieve justice and peace in the country.

Rabbani said that this community had been playing a vital role in highlighting the problems of common man and serving for the best interest of the country. Despite of sever and unfavorable circumstances, the journalists keep their struggle continued. On the line of their duty many were martyred and received slaps.

Chairman senate cited that he would also raise voice against the injustices being committed with journalists.

“It is the onus of the media organization’s owners to provide salaries to their staff within due dates so that they could meet their expenses,” he said.

Raza Rabbani lamented that journalism was a noble profession and if utilized in right direction it could drive the country towards the path of progress and prosperity. He added that journalists were facing life threats both from state and non-state actors.

The chairman in his closing remarks also extended his thanking words to the journalists for granting him the privilege to address the Oath taking ceremony of the newly elected body of NPC.

The newly elected President of NPC Shakeen Anjum and Secretary General Imran Yaqoob Dhilon on this occasion pledged to deliver for the community and praised Rabbani’ services for democracy in the country. The out-going President of NPC Shaheryar handed over the charge of NPC administration to the newly elected president in pursuance of constitution requirements.

President of PFUJ Afzal Butt also addressed on this occasion and expressed that newly body is competent enough to serve the journalists community.
