MediaPTI government firmly committed to freedom of media: Shibli Faraz

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Syed Shibli Faraz has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government are firmly committed to the freedom of media, the betterment of journalists, and provision of a conducive environment.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Shibli Faraz said that the government will continue to strive for the promotion of independent and responsible journalism.

The information minister said that we all express best wishes over Journalist Matiullah Jan’s safe return.

The senior journalist Matiullah Jan was abducted from G-6 Sector in Islamabad on Tuesday by unidentified persons; however, 12 hours later, he was released near Fateh Jang, a tehsil of Punjab’s Attock district located nearly 25 miles southwest of Islamabad.

His abduction sparked anger among the Journalist Community, demanding the government to take timely and appropriate measures to ensure his immediate release.

Along with the Journalist Community, political parties as well as the Federal Cabinet members including the Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry and the Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari also raised voices for release of Matiullah Jan and strongly denounced such heinous crimes.
