MediaMMfD conducts training workshop on data journalism, RTI laws

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Media Matters for Democracy (MMfD) organized a three-day workshop in Islamabad from October 11-13, aims at importing training to journalists mainly on data journalism and Right to Information (RTI) laws.

As many as 12 journalists based in Rawalpindi & Islamabad, and affiliated with various media outlets participated in the training.

The three-day training workshop on the Fundamentals of Data Journalism was conducted by MMfD as part of its Media for Transparency Projects which aim to combine data journalism skills with the use of RTI laws to product data-driven investigative news stories.

The workshop included multiple sessions at which MMfD’s Executive Director Asad Baig, Director Programs Sadaf Khan and Program Manager Waqas Naeem facilitated the training on the data journalism process, Pakistan’s RTI laws and how to use them, working with numbers, finding data for news reports, data analysis using MS Excel, and data visualization skills.

In the end, participant journalists were also awarded certificates on completion of three-day training workshop.

Media Matters for Democracy, a not-for-profit organization which works for innovation in media and journalism through the use of technology, research, and advocacy on media and internet related issues, also plans to conduct trainings for journalists on the Fundamentals of Data Journalism in Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi.

The next workshop will take place in Peshawar from October 18-20.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
