ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday told the Senate that 42 journalists were murdered across Pakistan during the last four years and a total of 55 accused were nominated for their killing. PTI government would be remembered for the maximum number of killings of journalists in its 42 months era.

Of those, 15 journalists were killed in Punjab, 11 in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 03 in Balochistan.

Replying to a question by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Marriyum Aurangzeb told the House in writing that among 26 accused in Punjab, 07 accused were arrested, 02 were bailed out, 05 were under trial, 08 were not arrested or escaped, 01 was released by the Court, and 03 were killed in police encounter.

In Sindh, 04 accused were arrested and 07 were facing a trial while 02 accused were acquitted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 04 were under trial, 01 wasn’t arrested or escaped, and 06 were miscellaneous.

Likewise, 01 accused was under trial in Balochistan, 01 was sentenced, 02 escaped, and 01 was under police investigation.
