ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the two-day International Conference of News Agencies (ICNA) is set to open on Sunday, the delegates from various countries are arriving in the Federal Capital to attend the event being held on May 13-14.

By the time, 15 delegates have arrived from 12 Countries to attend this important conference, being organized by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) under the theme, “Pakistan’s Media – Opportunities and Challenges” with special focus on ‘News Agencies – Emerging Professional Challenges.’

The Managing Director APP Masood Malik received the delegates and in brief interaction with them, expressed the hope that the deliberations of the conference would lead to a meaningful cooperation among the news agencies.

He said the conference would provide an opportunity to journalists for a direct and hassle-free linkage to cope with emerging competitive environment for news agencies in the world.

The moot, being held in line with 70th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, aims at highlighting Country’s constructive image and promoting collaboration among news, disseminating bodies to cope with the challenges of media revolution.

So far, the delegates from China, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Romania, Oman, Bulgaria, Turkey, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria and Tunisia have landed, with more on their way to the Capital City.

Besides being instrumental in promoting country’s soft image amongst comity of nations, the conference would also provide the participants an opportunity to discuss current challenges and evolve a strategy.

In this age of digital communication, the role of news agencies was of paramount importance, amid the challenges of globalization and fast changing trends of the media industry.

The Conference would feature important sessions on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Media Connectivity, Emerging Future Challenges to News Agencies and Role of News Agencies in Digital Era and Mutual Cooperation.

Keynote speakers from different sectors would deliver lectures in four main and two interactive sessions.

During different sessions, the foreign delegates would be apprised about the way Pakistan has coped with the challenge of terrorism and its efforts for peace.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
