Islamabad, Pakistan: The Kashmir issue has once again firmly asserted its presence on the global scene. After the Indo-Pak tensions in May 2025, the determination and effective manner in which Pakistan’s political, military, and diplomatic leadership highlighted the Kashmir issue has shaken the world. International recognition of occupied Kashmir as a disputed territory, support for the Pakistani position
DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry along with Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz made it clear in a joint press conference of representatives of the three armed forces that the root of the current conflict is the Kashmir issue and that unless this issue is resolved following the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and UN resolutions, lasting peace in South Asia is not possible. India’s attempts to change the status of Kashmir are a clear violation of international laws and commitments.
The most important aspect of this tension was that the Kashmir issue once again became the center of global attention. US President Donald Trump’s offer of mediation is proof that the international community is now viewing this issue as an international dispute rather than considering it an internal matter of India.

Due to Pakistan’s vigorous diplomatic efforts, not only does the international media cover the conflict, but human rights organizations also expose the atrocities committed in Kashmir. This increased international pressure on India to come to a solution to this long-standing issue.
Former Chief Minister of Occupied Kashmir Omar Abdullah also acknowledged this change. In a TV interview, he admitted that Pakistan has succeeded in raising the Kashmir issue at the international level and today world powers are taking a serious interest in this dispute. His statement not only negates the Indian narrative but is also proof that the Kashmir issue is not just a regional dispute but a global issue, the solution of which has become inevitable according to the opinion of the Kashmiri people.
It is also worth noting that although a ceasefire has been signed between the two countries, the Kashmir issue still needs to be resolved.
India’s continuous barbarity, extrajudicial killings, and attempts to change the population ratio are constantly endangering the peace of South Asia. The international community now needs to move beyond mere rhetoric and take practical steps so that the Kashmiris can get their fundamental right, the right to self-determination, and a lasting peace can be established in the region.
In this context, it must be acknowledged that peace and development in South Asia depend on a just resolution of the Kashmir issue. Pakistan has always been open to dialogue to resolve the Kashmir issue and has repeatedly expressed its desire for a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

India should also realize that further intransigence will lead the region towards destruction. It is time that the Kashmir issue be resolved per the wishes of the Kashmiri people and the resolutions of the United Nations, so that South Asia can move towards a peaceful and prosperous future.
