ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar has said that most of the cement manufacturers have agreed to reverse the increase in prices of cement, which had raised in view of rising costs that they faced.

In a Tweet on Saturday, Hammad Azhar said that the cement manufacturers agreed on lowering the prices upon the government’s request and in an appreciable gesture to keep prices of essential construction materials stable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his separate tweets, Hammad Azhar said that the relevant ministries of the government are working to remove hurdles to scale up local production of Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs), hand sanitizers, and other medical equipment.

The minister said that we are working with the health division to identify bottlenecks that may exist in the form of over regulation or duplicity of procedures.

In this regard, he added that the Cabinet has decided to delist hand sanitizers from the purview of Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and hand it over to Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) for quality standards enforcement.

“We are now examining the issue of PPE gowns production to cut the red tape for local industrialists,” the minister said.
