Monitoring Desk: Indian authorities have shut down the internet and imposed a curfew in several parts of the north-eastern Indian state of Manipur after the CBI arrested five leaders of Arambai Tenggol, including Asem Kanan Singh.
BBC reported that Manipur has been turbulent since 2023 after ethnic clashes between the two largest groups erupted, and the BJP took several actions to purge the majority Meitei ethnic group. After the arrest of members of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol, tensions escalated across the valley districts of Manipur on Sunday, reported Hindustan Times. Protests erupted after this political development, and Indian forces are using tear gas shells, rubber bullets, live bullets, and mock bombs to manage the situation.

Asem Kanan Singh had been a Head Constable of the Manipur Police who currently holds the rank of Army Chief for the Arambai Tenggol. He took arms after witnessing gang rape of two women of his ethnic group by the Indian Army and no action was taken against Army officers.
