Mamnoon, Nawaz discuss execution of convicted terrorists

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain held a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday and reviewed the overall security situation in the country.

The official sources said that both the president and the prime minister also discussed matters related to execution of convicted terrorists during the meeting.

The president told the prime minister that has already rejected 17 appeals, seeking pardon against death penalties awarded by courts in terrorism related cases.

During the meeting, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to continue the ongoing war against terrorism and elimination of terrorists.

The prime minister apprised President Mamnoon about the decisions made at an all parties conference held in Peshawar on Wednesday in the wake of a deadly terror attack at Peshawar army school on December 16.

Earlier, the prime minister and the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan held a meeting in Islamabad and discussed overall security situation in the country.

During the meeting, the interior minister briefed the prime minister about the country’s prevailing security situation.

On Wednesday, Sharif lifted moratorium on death penalty for those convicted for terrorism after the deadly attack on army public school in Peshawar that left 148 persons mostly children killed.

“The prime minister has abolished the moratorium on death penalty in terrorism-related cases,” the prime minister office said.
