ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Friday said that major political parties in Pakistan had welcomed the goodwill visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistan.

Major political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, had the consensus on peace and enhanced people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and India, Sartaj Aziz said while talking to a private television channel.

He said during the meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart it had been agreed that the two countires’ foreign secretaries would meet in Islamabad in the middle of January to finalize the schedule and modalities for the resumption of Comprehensive Dialogue.

Sartaj Aziz said the informal interaction between the Pakistani and Indian leaders in Paris on November 30 and the meeting between the National Security Advisors of two countries in Bangkok on December 6 had pushed the process forward.

Later, during the visit of Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj to Islamabad to attend the Heart of Asia Conference on December 9, the two sides decided to resume the Comprehensive Dialogue process, he added.

To a question, the Advisor to PM said the visit of Indian Prime Minister was not formal, as he (Modi) made a telephonic call to Prime Minister Sharif and expressed his desire to make a stopover in Pakistan and meet him.

To another question, Sartaj Aziz said, all the institutions in Pakistan were on the same page on the issues of national importance.
