ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage Lok Virsa would organize a “Dholak Geet Contest” in Islamabad on May 26.

According to an official of the Lok Virsa, students of various educational institutions have been invited to participate in the contest, adding that some schools and collages have already registered for the contest.

   

He said an audio CD of ‘Dholak Geet’ will also be launched on the occasion.

He said that Lok Virsa would making efforts to revive the use of dholak in our celebrations.

“This has been one instrument which was fully owned by women and was commonly used for their songs, celebrations and sharing of good times,” he said.

He said that Lok Virsa calls upon every family to have a dholak at their homes so that it can become a symbol of creativity.

“Having a dholak at home will encourage our children to learn it and participate in wedding celebrations and other family occasions. We have to get good quality traditional music for our weddings,” he said.

He said that dholaks will be available for sale at the occasion and at our Lok Virsa shop from then on wards.
