RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Heavy monsoon downpours accompanied by strong winds lashed Islamabad‚ Rawalpindi and adjoining areas this morning.

A spokesperson of metrological office Pakistan that 190 mm of rain has been recorded in Islamabad during the last twenty four hours.

According to rescue officials‚ water level has reached alarming level at Nullah Leh. They said sirens have been sounded to alert the people living close to Nullah Leh as the water level has risen to 23.46 feet at Katarian and 15.94 feet at Gawalmandi.

Spillways of Rawal dam has also opened to discharge the additional water.

Rains submerged main roads of Islamabad and Rawalpindi including Islamabad expressway‚ causing traffic jams.
