ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Lok Virsa is planning to organize 10-day folk festival known as ‘Lok Mela’ in major cities like Karachi and Swat from next year in order to promote the country’s traditional folk art and culture.

An official of Lok Virsa told APP that Lok Mela annually organized in federal capital in the month of April.

“Lok Mela aims at promoting, perpetuating and preserving arts, crafts, culture, folk music and traditional skills of Pakistan,” he said.

He said that this unique event has now become a symbol of the federation and patronage to our rich cultural diversity and active participation of the people,” adding the central focus of Lok Mela was rural areas of the country.

He said that the direct beneficiaries would be artisans, folk artists, folk musicians and other performers from the rural and remote areas.

He said that in this regard final decision would be made after consulting all four provinces.
