ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) has planned number of cultural activities for the month of May.
The first programme has already started with Crafts of the Month for children in stone carving and lacquer work from May 2 which would conclude on May 8.
Lok Virsa Mandwa Film Club would organize screening of various films including classic film Anarkali produced in 1958 on May 7, Japanese film “Always Sunset at 3rd Street on May 14 and film Casablanca on May 28 at Lok Virsa Media Center.
Special programmes focusing on youth would also be organized on May 18 on the eve of International Museum Day.
Lok Virsa arranged an “Empowered Women Empowered Pakistan Expo’ to be held on May 7. The two-day expo would pay tribute to hardworking and brave women promoting economic contribution of women.
During expo an exhibition of handicrafts, a musical and cultural shows would also be arranged. National and International organizations would also arrange food stalls and decorations made by women in the expo.
Lok Virsa also organize two-day Chinese Food Festival from May 21 at premises of Lok Virsa.
A tribute would be paid to renowned poet Habib Jalib on MAy 23. A dance performance by Indu Mitha’s group would also be arranged. While Mujahid Barehlvi’s book launching ceremony would also be held.
Lok Virsa also announced to organize a “Dholak Geet Contest” on May 26.
“At this occasion, an audio CD of ‘Dholak Geet’ will be launched.
We will also have dholaks for sale at Lok Virsa shop,” an official of the Lok Virsa said.
He said that the students of various educational institutions have been invited to participate in the contest.
He said that “Lok Virsa is making efforts to reclaim the wedding celebrations and bringing back our creative expressions within our families”.
This instrument was commonly used in weddings for singing songs, celebrations and sharing of good times.
