ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has full right to block NATO supply routes going through the province, adding that sit-in protest in Peshawar against US drone strikes will continue for an indefinite period.

Imran was talking to media representatives before his departure to Peshawar where his party is staging a sit-in protest on Ring Road against US drone attacks.

The PTI chairman said that NATO supply routes will remain closed unless the US gives assurance of not conducting drone attacks on Pakistani territory.

Imran said that the provincial government is not the part of the sit-in protest against drone attacks. However, he said, since the US drone targeted the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, therefore the provincial government should also participate in the protest.

Imran Khan said that if they were in federal government, they would have blocked NATO supply at first then they would go to the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile, the Peshawar’s Ring Road has been closed for NATO supplies by placing containers, while Pak-Afghan Torkham border has also been closed.

The Security has been put on high alert in the city and its surroundings to avoid any untoward situation as at least 500 policemen and several of PTI volunteers are performing the duties of security checks, while staff of Bomb disposal squad is also screening the premises.

A large number of people are gathering on the Peshawar’s Ring Road to be the part of the rally which will be addressed by PTI leader Imran Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan and other leaders.
