PoliticsKP Revenue Department allegedly involved in large-scale corruption

Monitoring Desk: Alleged corruption and Chief Minister KP Ali Amin Gandapur are becoming bywords, but the most painful factor is involvement of top bureaucrats in this process. The majority of bureaucrats allegedly involved in such corruption cases are from the Central Supreme Service.

The recent case that has been surfaced is corruption in the recruitment of Patwaris (Revenue lower grade but powerful officers).

According to documents available with DND News Agency, the former Deputy Commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan recruited 24 patwaris under the notification of the Board of Revenue and Estate Department. Several illegal activities and irregularities have been revealed in the process of these recruitments and the role of Ali Amin Gandapur has also come to light in these activities.

In March 2022, the vacancies of 24 patwaris were advertised, however, on July 7, 2022, the number of seats was increased from 24 to 36 by the departmental committee. This increase was done without any official correspondence and public information and about Rs 360 million were received from applicants from these additional seats as bribe.

According to insiders, the district administration of Dera Ismail Khan recruited over-aged candidates under pressure from the government. Some of these candidates were not legally eligible for recruitment. Insiders claimed that CM Ali Amin Gandapur received Rs 10 million as bribe per post in the recruitment process through his frontman and a total of Rs 360 million was collected as a result of this corruption. The names of Latif Niazi and Nawaz are appearing as frontmen of CM Gandapur.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment Department, Dera Ismail Khan started an inquiry into this corruption, but senior government officers and bureaucrats became obstacles. A new case has been recommended against Ali Amin Gandapur.

Due to this new case, Ali Amin Gandapur’s frontmen Latif Niazi and Nawaz may also be involved in this case. Evidences of kickbacks in the recruitment of patwaris proves either Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is corrupt or incompetent to control the corrupt bureaucrats.
