ISLAMABAD: Senior Supreme Court judge Justice Tassuduq Hussain Jailani has been appointed acting Chief Election Commissioner.

The government had sent a letter to the Supreme Court Registrar for the appointment of the acting CEC.

The resignation of for CEC Fakhrudddin G Ebrahim was accepted on August 12 and a notification in this regard was issued on Thursday.

Mr Ebrahim stepped down from the post after harsh criticism from the opposition parties for what they said his failure to stop rigging in May 11 elections.
