NationalIslamabad High Court issues arrest warrant for DC Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant for the Federal Capital’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon.

In a Contempt of Court Case, the DC Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon didn’t appear before the Court on Tuesday despite its order.

Rejecting his petition seeking an exemption from personal appearance, the IHC directed inspector generals of police (IGs) of four provinces and Islamabad to arrest Irfan Nawaz Memon and present him before the Court.

During the course of hearing, the DC Islamabad’s Counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi told the Court that Memon plans to go for Umrah, and he is in Khairpur at the moment.

In response, the IHC Judge Justice Babar Sattar said that the Court didn’t approve the DC’s plea yesterday.

On September 7 last year, the IHC Judge Justice Babar Sattar had indicted DC Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon and three others for contempt in a case pertaining to the prolonged detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.
