Islamabad court attack case: SC directs installation of CCTV cameras at all courts

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday directed to install Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at all the courts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi within 48 hours.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani gave the directions on Tuesday while hearing a suo motu case regarding yesturday’s attack on Islamabad district court that left at least 11 persons including additional sessions judge Rafaqat Awan killed.

During the hearing, the interior secretary submitted the initial report of the Islamabad court attack but the court directed him to resubmit a detailed version of the report on Monday.

The chief justice in his inquisition from the interior minister asked that out of 66 security men how many were present at that time, to which he responded that 37 were present.

In addition, the chief justice inquired about the bullets fired by security forces in a retaliatory response to the militant assault and asked the interior minister to submit a report on the bullets used by security forces in the next hearing.

Subsequently, the apex court ordered the chief commissioner Islamabad, witnesses and representatives of the district bar to record their statements until the next hearing of the case on March 10.
