Dar directs FBR to gear up efforts to achieve revenue collection target

ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for finance Ishaq Dar on Tuesday directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to further gear up its efforts to achieve the revenue collection target of Rs 2,345 billion set for the current fiscal year as it is imperative to develop programs for future of the country.

The minister was addressing the conference of the FBR officials in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Dar said that Rs 1,574 billion have been collected in the first nine months as compared to Rs 1,352 billion during the corresponding period last year.

This, he said, shows increase of 16.4 percent growth in revenue collection. However, he added, much more needs to be done to achieve the target.

Appreciating the performance of the FBR in revenue collection, the minister said that Rs 214 billion were collected in the month of March. From now onward the FBR will have to collect Rs 257 billion per month to achieve the revenue collection target.

Ishaq Dar said that achieving the revenue target is imperative to develop programs for future of the country. He said that the present government has doubled expenditures on the welfare of poor. The expenditures on the poor segments have been enhanced from Rs 40 billion to Rs 75 billion.
