ISLAMABAD: The International Volunteers Day is being observed on Friday with the theme of ‘People’s Participation’.

The day being observed annually on December 5 since 1985 provides a chance for volunteer-involving organizations and individual volunteers to promote their contributions to development at local, national and international levels.

It is also a unique opportunity for volunteer-involving organisations to work with government agencies, non-profit organisations, community groups and the private sector.

The UN volunteers while highlighting the significance of the day and its relevance to Pakistan said that at present 38 UN volunteers are actively involved in supporting development process in achieving UN mandate in Pakistan.

The volunteers are mainly assigned substantive programmes like human rights, political policy and planning, food security, refugee protections, governance, education and administrative functions.
