Indian forces resort to unprovoked fire at Shakargarh sector

SIALKOT, Pakistan: Four persons including a woman and an 18-year-old boy were killed when the Indian border security forces (BSF) again resorted to indiscriminate firing and shelling along the Working Boundary in Sialkot on Monday.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the firing took place in Sialkot’s Zafarwal and Shakargarh sectors while according to Chenab Rangers sources, a Rangers man and a civilian also sustained injuries in the firing.

The ISPR said that it was the sixth time since December 31, the Indian troops violated the ceasefire.

It said that the Indian forces suffered heavy losses due to retaliatory fire by the Pakistani border forces.

The military sources said that five Indian soldiers were killed in retaliatory fire by the Chenab Rangers.

Last week, two personnel of Pakistani Rangers were killed when the Indian BSF resorted to unprovoked firing ahead of a flag meeting ceremony in the Shakargarh sector of Narowal district.

Later, the Foreign Office summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to lodge a strong protest on the unprovoked firing of the Indian troops that left two Rangers personnel including Naik Riaz and Lance Naik Safdar martyred.

“The Government of Pakistan strongly condemned the action of the BSF troops, which is in violation of the commitment by both sides to maintain ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The statement said that the Indian government has been urged to investigate the incident, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure maintenance of peace and tranquility along the LoC and the Working Boundary.
