Indian elections 2014: Polling in fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections underway

NEW DELHI: The polling in fifth phase of elections for Lok Sabha is underway in India on Thursday as more than 195 million eligible voters in 121 constituencies across 12 states are casting votes to elect their representatives.

   

The constituencies, where polling is being held are in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Occupied Kashmir and Manipur.

The polling is also continuing for 77 Assembly seats in Odisha.

Indian elections 2014: Polling in fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections underway

The Indian elections which began on April 7 will continue till May 12 during which some 814 million eligible voters will elect members of the 543-seat Lok Sabha in the world’s biggest elections.

The result of this election will be declared on May 16 before the 15th Lok Sabha completes its constitutional mandate on May 31, 2014.

The main contest in the elections is between the Congress Party, led by Rahul Gandhi, and main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by the nationalist leader, Narendra Modi.
