US defence secretary pays three-day visit to India

NEW DELHI, India: The US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel will pay a three-day official visit to India beginning from Thursday, as part of high-level visits from the United States after formation of the new Indian government on May 26.

During his visit, the US defence secretary will hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Hagel will likely discuss military ties between the two countries including partnership in defence hardware.

Earlier, the US Secretary of State John Kerry visited India from July 30 to August 01.
