NEW YORK: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the meeting between Prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his counterpart Indian Prime minister Manmohan Singh in New York.

Ki-moon said it is a good omen that the both the leaders agreed to stop the recent spate of attacks across the Line of Control (LoC) to advance for peace talks.

China has also welcomed the meeting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Manmohan Singh and reiterated its support for the two countries to resolve their differences through dialogue.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said in Beijing that Pakistan and India are both important countries in South Asia and improvement of their relations is critical to peace‚ stability and development in the region.
