Monitoring Desk: After Police entered into girls Hostels of Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi and at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday evening, several female students are missing and nobody knows who have picked them up?
On Sunday, protests were controlled with force by police at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi and at the Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh as student were chanting slogans against Modi government and Police were resorting tear gas and thrashing male and female students in a brutal reaction.
Meanwhile situation is also getting out of control in West Bengal with incidents of arson and loot reported from the state.
In Assam’s Guwahati, two more persons died of gunshot wounds where Indian Army killed over 9 protestors.
Sunday was a charged-day in Delhi where Police entered Jamia Millia Islamia Delhi to arrest students and faced serious resistance and then Police entered Girls Hostel and picked female students to undisclosed place.
According to hospitals sources, 31 students were brought to hospitals with wounds of gunshot and 11 were in critical condition.
Chief Proctor Waseem Ahmed Khan of Jamia Millia Islamia Delhi while talking to journalists stated that the Delhi Police entered the campus forcibly without any permission and beat up staff members and students who were forced to leave the campus.
According to latest information coming from Lucknow, students have started a protest at Nadwa University, Lucknow and clashes with police are reported.
Condemning the police action, university vice chancellor Najma Akhtar said students who were inside the library which was allegedly surrounded by the police have been taken out and are safe.
While Police claimed they entered the university campus only to control the situation, after protesters indulged in violence.
The university had on Saturday cancelled exams and announced vacation till January 5 in view of the tension, while the Aligarh Muslim University too was closed till January 5.
Meanwhile, reports from Uttar Pradesh confirmed that hundreds of students of Aligarh Muslim University were taken away by police from campus.
AMU Proctor Prof Afifullah Khan said some security personnel have been injured in brick-batting near the gate. Police said the student broke down the police cordon. Police have sealed all gates to the campus.
Internet services were shut in West Bengal’s six districts — Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Howrah, North 24 Parganas and parts of South 24 Parganas — as the state convulsed with violence for the third successive day despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s appeal for calm.
Incidents of violence, loot and arson were reported from Nadia, Birbhum, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Howrah districts, police said.
In Amdanga area of North 24 Parganas and Nadia’s Kalyani, agitators blocked thoroughfares, setting logs on fire. Shops were also ransacked and people burned tyres in Deganga in North 24 Parganas.
Train services were hit in South 24 Paraganas as protesters blocked tracks near Nungi and Akra stations, which were also ransacked.
Similar protests were reported from Domjur of Howrah district, and parts of Burdwan and Birbhum, with agitators taking out rallies and raising slogans against the Modi government.
In Malda district, protestors ransacked Bhaluka railway station and staged a road and rail blockade at Sagardighi.
In another northeastern state of Meghalaya, curfew was relaxed in parts of Shillong on Sunday but situation is still out of control and the area is under curfew.
Banks and educational institutions remained shut with the North Eastern Hill University postponing all examinations to February 2020.
“What happened yesterday at both AMU and JaMia needs to be not just condemned but protested. A least three precious students were killed and bodies were taken away by police. The JaMia area remains under siege. Over 200 students are missing. It’s a disgusting horrid and frightening situation but the courage of women and men students is inspiring”, said Hussna Raheem, a student leader from JNU while talking to local television. She stated that JUN would also join protests if government would not stop action against students.
